ORGANOLOGICAL HERITAGE: situation and preservation
2009 is the fiftieth anniversary of the first meeting organized by John Henry van der Meer in den Haag in order to foster the international collaboration among musical instrument museums, and from which CIMCIM ensued. In these fifty years the role of organological heritage within and outside museums has radically changed and the number of museums and temporary exhibitions that include - or are based on - musical instruments has dramatically increased all over the world. In the meanwhile a new attention towards the conservation and preservation of musical instruments has developed both regarding the technical aspects (such as specific methods and ethics of conservation and restoration), and regarding the legal status of the musical instrument.
The meeting aims
at offering an overview of the present situation of the
organological heritage in a national
or
international perspective with three sessions mainly devoted to:
1)
new museums and innovative presentation of musical
instruments;
2) new methods of
scientific analysis aimed at the preservation and conservation of
musical instruments;
3) legal
status and protection of musical instruments
related to musical instruments museums and collections.
